Cosmetic dermatology and aesthetic nursing have attracted major attention from current and soon-to-be nurses for a variety of reasons. The environments are typically calm and beautiful, the clients are happy, and the hours are flexible and manageable. You can establish a real relationship with those you’re servicing. As a newly graduated nurse (UVA class of ’22!), I felt that cosmetic derm would be the perfect combination of science and art that I would enjoy. As the popularity of the field increases, each job posting is saturated with applications and it can be hard to stand out among the masses of interested nurses. One of the best ways to stand out is by taking the extra step and shadowing an aesthetic nurse. This shows you are serious about aesthetics, either as a business-owner or an injector. So what’s the shadowing like?
Before you arrive at the office, Cassie ensures that you are set up with a shadowing day where a variety of services are being performed. These services can range from Botox and filler, to MIC metabolism vitamin shots, to her Signature Undereye PRP + Filler Treatment (and she happens to be the only aesthetics nurse in the Richmond area that offers this service). The actual practice itself is gorgeous. The medical spa was originally a small house, which gives the business a cozy and warm feel. Everyone in the practice is extremely friendly, which is the foundation for a positive experience as a new face.
While shadowing, you get to observe her perform a variety of services on her clients while she explains each step of what she’s doing, the science behind the service, and what the client can expect of results. One thing I love about following Cassie is watching how she interacts with new and regular customers, always making them feel comfortable and never failing to show her extensive knowledge on what she is providing to them. She ensures that her clients leave happy, yet she’s very honest with them about expectations. As she puts it, “the goal of my treatments is to set realistic and high expectations for results, not unattainable perfection, because I want them to know exactly what to expect.” Once the expectations are agreed upon, she gets to work and the end result is fantastic each time. She ensures to take before and after pictures so she and the client can see the immediate difference and I have yet to see a single one leave unsatisfied!
More than shadowing…
Shadowing Cassie is also special because of the mentorship she provides. I get so much from shadowing Cassie and I’m very grateful for the opportunity to do so. Each time I go in, it solidifies my own desire to break into the aesthetics field.
